Journaling can be a powerful tool for mental health maintenance, self-discovery, and emotional regulation. I like to journal daily for these very reasons. For someone that tends to overthink, journaling is a way to put your thoughts on paper. Seeing them in front of you makes them less overwhelming.
Journaling with pen and paper is my favorite, but there are times where I can’t write fast enough, so I’ll type on my computer. Allowing the repetitive thoughts to flow and be released can help to quiet the mind, which can be beneficial before bedtime or a period of productivity.
Journal prompts can inspire us to explore our minds and be introspective. This can be helpful when trying to overcome an issue, trauma, or obstacle. I’ve also found writing letters to myself and others to be very healing and therapeutic. Writing is definitely a means of release, a vital part of the healing process.
